No, the thing about growing old is that it is an altogether new
ball game based on a multitude of different criteria such as how healthy you
are, whether you have any family and friends, and whether you have any money to see
it all through..?
But the one I wish to dwell on today is the question of social
contacts exemplified in my blog title... For when one gets down to the nitty
gritty these are the things which really count in life once the basic comforts: health family and/or friends and income are provided for.
Much of what I write about then has little to do with what goes on
in young people’s lives for younger people are either too busy studying too
busy working or too busy doing other things as if they never really have a time
when they can just be for long enough to reflect on this kind of stuff.
In my case I was fortunate in the sense that I didn't complete my
formal education until age 31 when I graduated from University, then
fortunate in my choice of jobs that they took me 2/3rds round the world, a world in which I made lots of business contacts some of whom stayed with me
or kept popping up here and there for the best part of the years from age 15 to 70.
But now after 5 years of retirement proper I am beginning to categorize people in accordance with the title of my blog...
"Friends" is the easy one to define for these are the
people one gets on with people who perhaps tend to be on the same side of the people
to people divide whilst "enemies" would be the opposite people one
doesn’t see eye to eye with and "ex-both" perhaps the most
interesting bunch..?
In the "ex-both" category would be all the people who died of course but
then all those once friends who for whatever reason: ill health loss of partner
for example and/or loss of sufficient income can no longer make the effort required of being a friend… the ex-enemies the people one worked with whom one
never saw eye to eye and so becoming over time people to avoid... the growing band of people who get blanked then… ”Blanked” being
for better or worse something which figures more and more in one’s aging life… hahaha which
is to say one has to comes to terms with being on the receiving end of the blank
too…
Now who is going to read this drivel do I hear you my blog
audience for today? Well one day in the not-too-distant future I have it in
mind to let my family know of its whereabouts so if you like it will become a
part of my life I bequeath to posterity..? In a way perhaps mimicking my Da’s
writing home during WW ll when at its end he didn't make it home himself..? though
I have given my blog spot already to the odd friend or ex..?
Have a good day everybody I hope you are still making new friends too..?
