Granddaughters..? 17 9 9 (19) 25 2 15
Started 17 9 8
When i wrote my first
blog about my granddaughters' arrival almost a month ago no-one would have
suspected that one month later one of them would still be here after what we
supposed would be a short visit of 2½ days duration which as far we were
concerned, her Famor and Grandad, was all too short a time but now we are all
of us hoping she will be fit enough to travel back to England at least no later
than Monday the 11th September… provided her fever subsides and
the course of antibiotics she has been taking this last couple of days begins
to take the infection away!
The occasion like
those of former times has served to ensure that S the younger twin by a couple
of minutes and smaller baby by virtue of being born with a body weight only
slightly more than a 1/3rd of her big sister F’s birth weight
has become closer to me at any rate than I could ever become now to her older
sister, F. Already following their difficult births F was to leave her oxygen
tent for home at least a month earlier than S and, as I have written before,
parents and grandparents were encouraged to be her main visitors during this
period when the hospital nursing staff instructed us to cuddle her in our laps
outside her oxygen tent for the duration of these visits, and since my job took
me fairly close to the hospital where she was a patient I somehow got it into
my head I probably visited certainly most of the older Grandparental
generation.
Other times included
the year her older sister visited China to teach Kindergarten children for a
year when she missed visiting for a year so that for that year we only had the
pleasure of S’s company when I got to be more involved with the visit taking
her on day’s out together with her two boy cousins who also live here…
And in the blogs this
summer/autumn I have written about them and more particularly S the time has
gone by with more than the odd surprise: how in a word despite her small size
there lurks a very mature young mind in this person who on more than one
occasion has been instructive to her old granddad, hahaha.
This morning after she had breakfasted with her
Famor (that’s Father’s Mother in Swedish the language they use in this case) on
her usual choice of porridge we were discussing what each of us intends to do
this day when I asked what she was doing with her pc open in her lap? To this
she replied she was writing to someone how best to write a kissing scene in a
novel… S has already written one book in addition to completing her honours
degree in Creative Writing and has quite a following on the internet for her
kind of stories…This got us discussing other works of fiction and how for
example we both like William Shakespeare which prompted her to suggest perhaps
I should think of writing my Seven Ages of Man. And when I responded how
insightful Shakespeare must have been dying as he did in what now we regard
early middle age with phrases such “sans teeth sans everything” to which of
course she added how it is only now that people are living to such long old
ages in contrast to Shakespeare’s time 450 years ago. I told her how I
shouldn’t be able to do justice to my seven ages on a single sheet of A4 which
is what I like to do in these blogs when then she countered how I could begin
by devoting a blog to each age…Then I said I am too much the action man for
such an undertaking and how the best part of every day is when I take my walk
round town and go for my swim. And when it gives me the opportunity to bring my
continuing life story up to-date: something I began I told her when I was 20 y
old and first started having problems with girls, which drew a knowing look
from this almost 24 year old young lady, hahaha.
In a word with S during this past month while she
has been staying the biggest part of the time in our midst and before that
certainly during the weekly visual chats we have had with her once a week
courtesy of WeChat and our smartphones I feel we have really got to know one
another in a way I never really got to know any of my three grandparents whom I
otherwise knew quite well whilst with her sister F who has been in a steady
relationship with her boyfriend these past 3 or 4 years, someone she met at the
same University, I feel is far more guarded whenever we talk and somehow afraid
to engage to the same extent… Well nice to have this kind of relationship at
least with one young lady, as I hope you too get to continue to enjoy the
company of young people well into your old ages..? Have a good day everyone!
My youngest Granddaughter 1 month on..? 17 9 9 ...and maybe an apt sequel to by take of "a continuing Story" re-produced in my last published blog here? That is despite their original appearances being from getting on 8 or 9 years ago..?
