Golden Days, in the Sunshine of a Happy Youth...25 4 8

....Golden Days, full of gaiety and full of truth..?

This once haunting lyric came to mind this morning, reminding me of the person responsible, or persons, from the time of my 21st birthday in 1961: when my mother bought me a Dansett Record Player, with a diamond stylus, so unlike the older styluses once used to play 78 rpm older fashioned records, it would play the new lighter contructed LP Records in vogue around that time, time and time again, without the need to change the stylus.

My then friend, a Mr K.Reed I had met 5 - 6 years earlier when I was 15 years old, and he 26, born as he was in the month of July, whilst I had to wait until November for my b-d. My first LPs: "Come Fly with Me" featuring singer Frank Sinatra, a Traditional Jazz LP featuring Chris Barbour, and Mario Lanza's "Golden Days" on an LP of "The Student Prince" by Sigmund Romberg, a gift from my Aunty Ada and Uncle Bill. It was Mr Reed's all time favourite from my collection.

Sadly Mr Reed had already pronounced shortly after we met that marriage was never going to be for him and he kept to his word, although there was talk of him marrying his live-in girl friend, in her house not his, when she lay on her death bed at 56 years of age, he an aging 69 at the time 13 years her senior. Friends and lovers perhaps 20 years, and if he didn't marry her he inherited her not inconsiderable fortune, including the house they were living in at the time.

Come my 26th birthday I would meet the girl A-E G. who was to become my life-long partner: getting engaged in the month just gone in the year 1967 March 13th, with our wedding later the same year 8th July.

Our two sons followed in the next 3 years, and their children twin girls to our younger son K.P. in 1993, and two grandsons to our elder son J.S. in 1999 and 2000. Thereafter our first great grandchild Hugo born to our first granddaughter, F, and her partner, J, in 2024.

With an upcoming wedding August 2nd later this year, in the town in which we live, and in the venue we have used twice before for family celebrations, we are on track this springtime for another pertaining to "Golden Days..?"
