To wed or not to wed..? 25 4 1

...on our youngest son's birthday...That was the question I put to him in the spring of 1995 or maybe earlier following the birth of their twin girls in 1993 10 13, His response was that they had no money since not so long before he had been a soldier in the Finnish Army completing his National Service when it used to be joked their pay was sufficient to buy a packet of fags a day nothing more...thereafter doing a manual job as a machineman of my company's 23-29 machine, a not so high wage for such a young man with his young family his wife-to-be caring for their two girls.

So I said his mother and I would meet half the expense of a wedding if his partner's parents were willing to raise the other half. That all agreed allowed us to hire a hall one of the town's two sailing club pavillions and there followed the party assocated with their nuptuals sactified with a blessing in the Parish Church after a civil ceremony held the day before in the next town.

We were to hire this same hall some years later when my wife decided she would have a 60th birthday bash, following the one arranged for me in Northern England in the town of Bury just round the corner from where my mother resided in her local Liberal Club. Most notably on our second hiring the first grandchildren were joined by their first and only boy cousins which left everyone with the memory of their awestruck faces when "Elvis Presley" made an appearance to regale the gathering with some of his most popular balads.

Well after all these years later there is going to be another wedding in our family when our eldest grandchild has decided to marry her partner when perhaps their first child will also be a guest in what is to be a Vegan wedding reception so I am lead to believe.

Accordingly, with up to 70 guests arriving from mainly the United Kingdom I am of course delighted as a former Brit to see so many of my once fellow countrymen visiting the town of my adoptive country. But as a carnevore turned piscivore this last year in part owing to difficulties eating with an ever more limited range of foods I can satisfactorily eat maybe I shall give the wedding breakfast a broad berth..!?

Good Day!
