Today meeting the two Qvarnström sisters, the Professor first, and then her older (?) sister Stiina, the Physician, who told me she is still coming here for the Laboratory after hearing about my MRI Scan, so implying that she is still registered as a Hanko person...
Quite a long chat first with younger sister when we talked about Finnish Culture and how I came here, giving her not the 5c tour but the 5$, when she responded how Finland appears to becoming more racist... but older sister joined us with their two dogs Stella and ? I cannot remember the later dog's name, but handing over the leads to younger sister leaving Stiiner and me to play catch up, also her older friend...
More and more as an "Oldie" I am being accepted more as a member of the Finnish Culture because for one reason it is customary among Finns to drop their usual reserve among foreigners for their stronger respect for anyone seriously old when the main thrust of their behaviour is one of respect...perhaps explained by formerly telling me to say greetings to my wife whereas today it was her love I should give her...sutle differences to exemplify my understanding...
As if in old age it is time to get more real and call a spade a spade. For the present Finland is governed by the first truly Rightwing Government in my long association with it, in particlar since our last arrival in 1988 wherein the rightwing parties, The Kokomus or Conference Party, and the Perus Suomalaiset, or Finland for Finns Party, also right-wing have formed a Government. Possibly the former party the party of my Finnish brothers-in-law, whereas the latter the party of our family's token Finnish Finn, the once head of the family in the man married to my wife's elder sister, P, married to the Varatuomari (Reserve Judge) J. Tradionally Finland has been governed by the Social Democrats, with leaders such as Sanna Marin, a Finnish speaking Finn whom my younger Swedish-speaking Finn, K-W, was happy to voice his disenchantment about. His elder brother K-J, typically leaving Politics aside, whilst keeping his own council. We the G-K's the only left wingers in this once great family!
But these last 5 years, staying in Scandinavia, and instead of returning to the countries of my birth and antecedents in Great Britain and Ireland, I have contented myself in visiting only Northern Finland and Arctic Norway and Sweden, that is the once Saame ppl of Sapmi (Lapplanders of the Tundra) to perhaps help concentrate the mind to reach the deeper understanding I believe myself now to possess of its ppl of the region.
