Cockroach Infested to Mustarastas laulamassa..? 2026 1 26
Yeah, that's where I came from during 18 yrs of my childhood, to 36 yrs of my late adulthood...but to be fair the house into which I was born was more salubrious, sporting 3 bedrooms, a fitted bathroom, and even an air-raid shelter in the rear of two gardens, thanks to the city of Manchester's slum clearances in the early part of the 20th centuary, in 1936 to be precise 3 years before my arrival.
In-between times many stops and starts along the way. For example branching out on my own in 1960 first, aged 20, I got to reside in a Swedish School in Kuusankoski given over to accommodating students in the summer months of June through August when I shared a classroom with this very superior PhD student from Austria, one Herwig Marshalt, for 6 weeks.
Before, a year later, getting my own room on the 1st floor of an apartment block known as Kukkolla (meaning the Cocks' residence, housing only males, facing another building entitled Kannalla, for Hens, lol). A year later still I would get my share of two semi-detached houses on Öljömäentie and then later the same year, a share in a fully detached house on Kymintehtaantie, sharing with another Austrian, a Diploma Ingineering student called Jeri Sorger, famous for two attributes in my innocent life :bumming cigarettes and seducing as many of the local girls as he could muster, a totally disreputable person. And when he departed for Austia at the upcoming Christmas of 1962, I got single occupancy for 3- 4 months until it became time for me to return home in England.
Then after another year of living "at home" I returned for one final year to Kuusankoski when I got a Bachelor Apartment in a block called Puistomaa (Parkland in English) wherein everyone had their own en suite rooms, but shared a Common Room and Kitchen, where we held many parties on a weekend, with my getting to buy the crate of beer, the only one with a passport required to buy alcoholic beverages (i.e. locals needing to buy a state licence proving the minimum age of 21 years).
Returning to England one last time from Kuusankoski, I then began to have postal addresses in different parts of the United Kingdom: the first as an Assistant Youth Hostel Warden at Greenside Hostel, above Glen Riding in the Patterdale Valley of the English Lake District, for the summer months of 1965, wherein the Lakeland tracks and Rock Faces became my playground, but only briefly as my career as a budding Chemist would begin to take off
In the autumn of that same year moving to Beaconsfield to rented room with the Pasks of maybe 2 x 2 square metres, Bed and Breakfast, for the 1st few weeks before moving into a Heathrowe Airport Aviation Pilot's vacated apartment of 2 rooms and a bathroom in the second florr of Boyne House on Grove Road, at the princely sum of 7 guineas a week. But again fortunately for only a few weeks duration since the Company I had moved to, relocated me to the Westend Hotel in Fort William for the first 4 months of 1966, to take part in the commissioning of the Scottish Pulp and Paper Mills development of Wiggins Teape Ltd.
Returning to Beaconsfield to Boyne House the Palmers relocated me to a less expensive 2-room apartment comprising a kitchen cum-storage room and a bed-sitting room beneath the eves, with a single window looking out over the rear spacious garden, provided from a standing position.
This Boyne House in he Executive Belt around London, situated midway between London and Oxford on the exclusive Grove Road, located maybe 1/2 a mile from the town centre, and London to High Wycombe Railway Line, close by Beaconsfield Station. It would represent the pinnacle of housing accommodation I would get to live in before meeting my wife-to-be whilst resident there during 2 1/2 years. Interestingly enough once we tied the nuptual knot 8th July 1967 we moved into a third apartment in Boyne House comprising a kitchen accessed via a first floor landing which encirculed the spacious ground floor hall and living area of the Palmers who rented out most of the 1st and 2nd floor rooms to paying guests, with our main living cum sleeping room located between two larger rooms either side which contained much larger bay windows. My third residence in the same house, the last two of which sharing a common first floor bathroom, my wife's first abode in the UK as a married woman (to her dying shame, unable as she was to be able to invite any family visitors from Finland as would become possible in some of our later dwellings).
In total then:
1)Boyne House, Grove Rd., Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire. England. Nov 1965 - 1968 May
2) Beechwood, Bathroad Road, Maidenhead, Berkshire, accommodatingthe birth of our first child: 3 months.

N.B. Interesting for me on this 26th day of the month in 2026 that I should have had 26 different abodes in total 1/2 before I met my wife-to-be including the 1st at 13 Thornleigh Road, Fallowfield and 1/2 I shared with her subsequent to our marriage!?
