Colleagues of Note, not all great..? 25 12 20
And in order of stature the most notable: Philip Cromton and Dick Orton my directors at JR Crompton and Bros Ltd., each ex-Public School Charterhouse, today's fees for residents £44 000 plus pa, ex-WW II war heroes and repectively part owners of the Paper Manufacturing Company, JRC founded in 1830, Philip the last male descent and Chairman of its Board and CEO, then Dick his brother-in-law his Sales and Marketing Director.
Reino Österlund and Boris Höglund of Oy Visko Ab pre-1988 before I was invited to move from JRC to OyV towards the end of 1987 from my post of R. and D. Manager and Project Coordinator for Sausage Casing Paper Developments, serving the two German manufacturers, the two US, plus their Belgian and French subsidiaries, accepting the move after turning down the first invitation.
Tor Johansson and Ulf Sjöblom, the two ppl who 2 years into my 4 year contract as Research and Development Director, to replace the fairly new Production Director (less than 2 years), and the longer term Financial Director I had only good relations with over a period of 10 years, the first a so-called Ordinary Engineer (less than the higher more respected Diploma Engineer), and the second an Economist Round Table attendee, the two I will describe as still wet-behind the ears in terms of accomplishments and behaviour in industrial life.
Then piggy-in-the-middle: this jumped-up working class Northern Englishman, aged 35 who was selected against stiff competition to be the next Research and Development Manager, for a period of 13 years, latterly with new owners when Philip had been superceded by Michael Webster and Michael Baker Dick Orton of the larger Bunzle Company that acquired JRC in August 1986 owing to a loss of Sausage Casing Quality upon the death of Philip Crompton in the winter of 1982.
To the reader, an outsider, reading this blog, they would be forgiven for asking "What is it with this guy endlessly recounting his past life, instead of getting on with his retirement of 17 years already?" But therein lies the rub. When we are living the past its fine if its within the confines of one's own culture, but take the man out of Manchester and put him in another country sporting two foreign cultures doesn't mean you can take Manchester out of the man!
That is, with a backward childhood, up until age 13, when he started problem-solving using his grey matter, rather than his fists, and when little by little his carear took off, with Philip and Dick as sponsers, but without the continuing support from his new colleagues in the Boardroom of OyV...to be addressed maybe in a later offering!?
